The Hong Kong Japanese Club Choir was established
more than half a century ago in Hong Kong.
The group began when several music lovers gathered
at the Japanese Club and enjoyed playing their instruments and singing.
Today it has grown as a choir, and is the only Japanese amateur choir
that exists in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Japanese Club Choir has about 50 singers;
most of them are Japanese but we also have a few Hong Kong singers
keen to savor the joy of singing in Japanese.
The members are drawn from various parts of Hong Kong
as well as some who even travel from
as far as Guang Zhou to join our activities.
What makes our Choir so unique is that there is a dynamic diversity
in the profiles of our members. There are former glee club members
who received proper voice training while they were in school,
while there also are members who have little experience,
but possess a strong enthusiasm and love for singing.
Also, our professions vary from the General Manger
of a big Japanese company to a full-time mother with one-year-old baby.
There are differences of age too - from a young lady
who is in her twenties to a youthful lady in her seventies
with a powerful beautiful voice. What unites us all is our love for music,
and these fifty different voices produce a beautiful harmony.
The Hong Kong Japanese Club Choir gives three or four major concerts
each year, alongside other smaller events and activities.
In the past, we were invited to sing at Hong Kong ? Japan Joint Charity Concert,
a concert organized together with Hong Kong Oratorio Society
and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the proceeds of which
was donated to social welfare institutions
and educational institutions in Hong Kong.
